Media Industry-My Inspirations

My inspirations

Emma Chamberlain
Emma Chamberlain is a lifestyle vlogger who has accumulated more than 11 million followers through her vlog lookbookshauls and more. Emma became popular as she pioneered a new editing approach to her vlogs.
On 11th April 2019, Chamberlain launched her podcast ‘anything goes, she addresses a wide range of topics such as relationships, mental health, fashion and gut feelings.

I love Emma's content because it's relatable, she targets a young adult audience (as she is a young adult) and bases her content around her life. Parts of it (especially her podcast) are raw experiences and how she dealt with them which is almost a comfort to this type of audience as they will be going/have been through similar experiences.

She also recently started using a new filming style, her vlogs tend to be more silent than before, its as if she’s not trying to make it interesting with words rather showing it through the cinematography, she’s letting the viewers see her day/experience through her eyes, which I (personally) find interesting to watch.

60s psychedelic posters

In the 1960s, the psychedelic art movement was led by poster artists: Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Bonnie Maclean, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley and Wes Wilson.

The art was inspired by Art Nouveau and Pop Art; Using richly saturated colours that contrast each other, bold lettering and bizarre iconography. The artwork was extremely influential to vinyl record cover art.

When making a print advert, I often gravitate towards this style of work as I feel like it's coming back into style lately. I like the bright colouring and over the top artwork, I think it's fun and creative and is really eye-catching to viewers.

Edgar Wright
Edgar Wright is an English film director, screenwriter and producer. He is known for his fast-paced satirical genre films such as Scott Pilgrim vs the world, baby driver & Shaun of the dead.
He has won many awards for the way he can combine comedy, romance, and even fantasy into enjoyable well-known films.

Wright made his feature film debut in 1995 with an Independent spoof westernA Fistful of Fingers, which was broadcast on the satellite TV channel, sky movies. It caught the attention of Matt Lucas and David Walliams who chose him as the director for their comedy production mash and peas.
He then went on to direct the British comedy series asylum in 1996 which ran for 6 episodes.
In 1998, Simon Pegg and Tallulah Hynes brought Wright onboard to direct their sitcom spaced; Edgar Wright then went on to collab with Simon Pegg for the comedy horror film Shaun of the dead in 2004.
In 2010, Wright directed the 2010 comedy film Scott Pilgrim vs the world which let Wright win the Empire award for best director.
In 2017, Wright directed the action thriller film Baby Driver, he also wrote the script and co-produced the film which was made on a budget of US $34 million. The film grossed the US $226 million worldwide and received positive reviews.

Edgar wrights films are (to me) something new and interesting, he uses music and editing techniques to really make his movies flow smoothly and keep you hooked throughout.

Wes Anderson

Wesley Anderson is an American filmmaker. His films are known for their distinctive visual and narrative styles such as Fantastic Mr Fox, The Royal Tenenbaums & Moonrise Kingdom.

Anderson's First movie was Bottlerocket, 1996 based on a short film that he had made with Owen and Luke Wilson. It follows a group of Texans who aspire to achieve heists.
Anderson's movie 'the royal Tenenbaums (2001) launched Anderson into critical success and was later ranked as one of the greatest films of all time.
In 2010, Anderson released 'Moonrise kingdom' which earned him an academy award nomination for his screenplay. Later, (in 2014) The Grand Budapest hotel. This movie became Anderson's greatest critical success, earning $175 million dollars worldwide and being nominated for multiple awards.

I love Wes Anderson's work, as I feel like he is extremely unique in his cinematography. It's something as a filmmaker that I strive to be like.
