what are Aardman Animations?
Aardman Animations Ltd. is a British animation studio based in Bristol, England. Aardman is known for its use of stop motion clay animation techniques, particularly those featuring Plasticine characters Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Morph.
Aardman was founded in 1972 by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, the partnership began providing animated sequences for the BBC series for deaf children 'vision on.'
In 1975, the partnership created a segment called 'Greeblies.' (using clay animation) which became the inspiration for creating 'morph'.
In December 1997, Aardman and Dreamworks announced that their companies were teaming up to create Chicken Run. On 27, October 1999, Aardman and Dreamworks signed a $250 million deal to make an additional four films.
They later entered the computer animation market with Flushed Away.
As of February 2020, Aardman films had made $1.1 billion worldwide and average $134.7 million per film. They have consistently been well received and their stop motion films are among the highest-grossing stop motion films.
What happened at the event?
At the event, Horton discussed how making storyboards is important in his line of work. He highlighted different projects he had worked on and showed examples of how the storyboards he had created helped with the final idea.
He discussed the new need for storyboards from film directors/producers and why they help with the filming process.
From sam, I learnt the importance of planning in the animation industry, having storyboards are crucial for projects as they allow the clay artists/ animators to have a clear understanding of how the story is going to go.
